Co-Director Search

Royal NoneSuch Gallery is looking for an enthusiastic artist or curator to join as a co-director. We are a completely volunteer-run gallery that operates on a not-for-profit model.

Our Mission:
Royal NoneSuch Gallery is an artist-run alternative art and event space located in the Temescal district of Oakland, California. We are dedicated to creating community around art-based experiences that are thought provoking and conceptually rigorous, while also being accessible and fun. Through a framework of monthly exhibitions and related programs, we strive to maintain a dynamic schedule in which the gallery is continuously reinvented to reflect the spirit and process of an artist, specific program series, or collaboration.

  • Work collaboratively to produce 6-9 exhibitions and 8-11 special events per year.

  • Collaboratively curate programming, conduct research, do studio visits with artists, and review proposals.

  • Complete various administrative, installation, event planning, marketing/PR, and curatorial tasks for every exhibition and event.

  • Work on fundraising efforts, in the form of: grant-writing, crowd-sourcing campaigns, events, corporate giving, and work to innovate or brainstorm new models for fundraising.

  • Attend meetings (teleconferencing can be accommodated at times) to plan and administrate gallery, which happen at minimum, monthly and sometimes bi-monthly depending on need.

  • Send and check emails and texts regularly about programming and administrative items.

  • Recruit and oversee volunteers and interns.

  • Attend all exhibitions and events. Help with setup/breakdown of bar, bartend, assist with other duties as needed.

  • Work gallery hours (Sat / Sun 1-4pm) as needed (sometimes we have interns cover all hours, sometimes co-directors need to put in 1-2 shifts per exhibition).
